I stopped updating this when I started a new job in October. I think I’m settling in a bit and hope to get back to providing weekly or near weekly updates to what I’m consuming. I also want to do some best of lists - books, albums, etc. Stay posted.

  • Bunny is a Rider by Caroline Polachek. Try not to groove.
  • Acclaimed Music’s 10,000 best songs of all-time Spotify playlist. A big enough list that it doesn’t even matter if it’s right or not. Caroline Polachek wants Surf’s up by the Beach Boys to be played at her funeral. The Wikipedia page for Surf’s up is a (longer than expected) portal into the weird world of Beach Boys mythology. The song is in position 755 on the list.
  • The first one minute of Barry White’s Never, Never Gonna Give Ya Up is almost perfect. The way it slowly builds into this almost dark, creepy place then resolves into a clean, shimmery groove with his little moan is almost perfect.
  • If you are interested in American popular guitar music, Eric Haugen’s YouTube channel is great. I just want to hang out with the dude.
