Music
The more I listen, the more I like Kevin Morby’s new album, This is a Photograph. The prayer / toast toward the end is especially wonderful:
to free the flame from burning up inside to thunder like a motorcycle headed down the line to eat to weep to lay me down so sweet to sow to reap oh to let our glasses clink to time to time to time to time to time to time to time to time
Time indeed.
Also:
- S.G. Goodman’s latest, Teeth Marks has also been on heavy rotation in and out of my mind.
- For something weird and wonderful, Daniel Ögren’s Fastingen-92 is great.
- The latest Quelle Chris
- Richard Thompson’s soundtrack to Grizzly Man
- Al Riggs’ new album Themselves. Hadn’t heard of him before, so this was a nice find.
Podcasts
- I’ve been listening to some episodes of the Hermitix podcast. Definitely out there, definitely interesting. Will listen more. The three I listened to this weed are The Philosophy and Physics of Cormac McCarthy, and the two-parter on Marshall McLuhan (part 1 and part 2). That last one goes to some interesting places…
Writing
Inspired by the Hermitix episode on Cormac McCarthy, I read his 2017 article in Nautilus that wrestles with language and the unconscious. It’s interesting, he uses punctuation and capitalizes things. Was honestly caught a bit off guard.
